North Omni
International Atlanta,
Ga. 30303 Shirley, The
dual purpose of the Atlanta Jugglers Association is to (1) bring jugglers
together to learn from one another and (2) expose the people of Atlanta
to the joys of juggling and other circus arts. To that end
we have established classes for school children, performed at numerous
area festivals (including the Children's Crazy Culture Carnival) and
generally tried to be as accessible to the public as possible.
The
A.J.A. is planning to host the First Annual Southeastern Jugglers
Conference on February 2-4, 1979. We are anticipating a turnout of
anywhere from sixty to 100 people from allover the region. This sort of
gathering requires a space adequate in terms of size, lighting and
convenience. As it happens, there are two such spaces in
the Atlanta Civic Center.
We
would like to propose the following: The City of Atlanta, through the
auspices of the B.C.A., will make either Meeting Room 201 or
Meeting Room 207 available for the convention on a rent-free basis. The
hours we would be using the space would be: Friday, Feb. 2,
NoonMidnight; Saturday, Feb. 3, SAM - Midnight; Sunday, Feb. 4, SAM -
4PM. These hours are, of course, flexible. In return for the use of the
Civic Center Meeting Room, the A.J.A. Will make the entire convention
free and open to the public, presenting informal performances and
seminars. In addition, we will be responsible for publicizing the event
and the B.C.A. will receive appropriate credit for its assistance.
Juggling
mini-conventions such as this are held in various places throughout the
country but until now no organization has had the will or wherewithall
to attempt it in Atlanta. We feel that the people, especially the
children, of this city will benefit enormously from exposure to juggling
and circus arts. One thing is certain: Atlanta has never seen a
gathering like this before.
Thanks
for your consideration in this matter, Shirley. We're |
